High Altitude Mountain Bike Athlete (Since 2016), MTB Guide (Since 2012) and Trekking Guide (Since 2008) from Nepal
Led by cancer survivors Harka Lama and Kabita Chitrakar cycled from Chiwabanjyang in Panchthar (eastern Nepal) to Jhulaghat in Baitadi (western Nepal - 1,800 kms).┬а
The main motives were to raise funds for underprivileged cancer patients unable to afford treatment (with donations going to Dhulikhel Hospital, which matched contributions), promote awareness of breast and cervical cancers through school programs and community outreach, and inspire hope and resilience by demonstrating cycling's role in physical and emotional recovery.┬а
The core group completed the full demanding route, with over 50 participants joining sections, while conducting awareness sessions in 14 schools across 11 districts reaching more than 1,700 young girls and women on screening and risks.┬а
The initiative successfully raised Rs 2.3 million, directly aiding patient care and highlighting personal stories of survivalтАФLama, motivated by his own supported treatment versus others' struggles, initiated the project in collaboration with Cycle Culture Community and Dhulikhel Hospital, turning adversity into nationwide action for cancer support.
